National winners of ‘Tata Building India School Essay Competition’ meet the President of India

The Honourable President of India, Shri Pranab Mukherjee, met and interacted with the national winners of the fifth and sixth editions of the ‘Tata Building India School Essay Competition’, today, at Rashtrapati Bhavan, New Delhi. Adding to this once in a life time opportunity, the winning students, selected from across 150 cities in India, also got an opportunity to take a tour of the Rashtrapati Bhavan.

Congratulating the winners and boosting their morale, Honourable President of India, Shri Pranab Mukherjee said, ” I would like to congratulate students and Tatas for organizing this essay writing competition. We are simply fascinated by your ideas expressed here. The constitutional promise of equality, liberty and justice can be realized when dreams of young minds are translated into reality. This initiative taken by Tatas to invite the young minds to write about how to build this country and transform socio-economic conditions is extremely welcome, further getting the young minds to express their views not only in English but also in regional languages. Students should be righteous, truthful and shouldn’t deviate from their conviction to achieve their goals.”

Held in 8 different languages - English, Hindi, Bengali, Gujarati, Marathi, Kannada, Oriya and Tamil, the fifth and sixth editions of the competition elicited enthusiastic participation from over 2 million students, each, from across 150 cities and over 5000 schools in India.

The Tata group felicitated the national winners from across the eight languages, at a ceremony held at The Taj Mahal Hotel in New Delhi. Mr. Bharat Wakhlu, Resident Director, Tata Services and Dr. Uma Tuli, Padma Shree awardee and the Founder & Managing Secretary of Amar Jyoti Charitable Trust awarded the young achievers with the coveted Tata Building India trophy and a laptop each .

Sharing their fascinating experiences, Jasleen Kaur, Junior Winner of the Tata Building India English Essay Writing Competition 2011-12 said, “It was once in lifetime experience to visit Rashtrapati Bhavan and meet the President himself”. K. Sreeraj, Junior Winner of the Tata Building India English Essay Writing Competition 2010-11 expressed happiness about the enriching experience he had at the competition and said that the competition prompted him to think differently about the development of the country.
