Unforgettable characters, exciting plots, and expressive illustrations make the difference between a good story and a great one. The PBS Kids Writers Contest offers children in Kindergarten through third grade an opportunity to build critical literacy skills by creating their own stories. Milwaukee Public Television is honored to host the 20th year of this event.

Writers Contest 2014Children living in the following counties should submit stories to MPTV:
Dodge, Jefferson, Kenosha, Milwaukee, Ozaukee, Racine, Sheboygan, Walworth, Washington, and Waukesha counties.

The PBS Kids Writers Contest is a national-local contest designed to promote hands-on, active learning.Writers Contest 2014 Students create their own stories and illustrations and submit their original work. The entry deadline is . Local judging will be in April. Winners will be notified, and their names will be posted on mptv.org. First place winners will move on to the national competition.

Harley-Davidson FoundationAll other entries will be returned by May 30th. MPTV encourages all students in our viewing area, Kindergarten through third grade, to participate. MPTV appreciates the efforts of the participating students. Each entrant will receive a certificate of participation, a free pass for one visit to the Betty Brinn Children’s Museum in Milwaukee and other small thank you prizes.

Ten-year-old from Harpenden wins prize in a national writing contest  — St Albans & Harpenden Review
A ten-year-old from Harpenden has won a prize in a national contest designed to find the best young writers. Susanna Tredinnick said she had to pinch herself when she was announced winner at the Wicked Young Writers' Award held in London.
